Hideaway Island Resort Port Vila
PO Box 1110 Port Vila, Vanuatu
ReserveInquireView Rates

Hideaway Island Resort and Marine Sanctuary is far from the typical, with the emphasis on protecting the reef, while maintaining the character of this piece of Melanesian paradise. It is only a short 15 minute bus and ferry trip form the airport and Port Vila. Surrounded by beautiful blue waters and coral reefs teeming with life, the sand and coral beaches, palm trees and Melanesian style accommodation make Hideaway just about picture perfect. And you don't have to give up too many creature comforts to enjoy it.

The style and standard ranges from private oceanside bungalows overlooking the water to quad share dormitories with shared facilities.

Hideaway Island Resort Port Vila Vanuatu - Accommodation

  • One Bedroom Oceanside Bungalows
There are currently seven free standing one bedroom bungalows on Hideaway and two others of a similar standard that share a wall with another building. These bungalows are the largest of our rooms, however they retain that Melanesian feel with coral decorating the outer walls and local artifacts adorning the interior. All the one bedroom bungalows have spectacular views over the water and are placed to see either the sunrise or the sunset. With interior floor space of approximately 60 square metres, they are more than generously proportioned. The bathroom, living area and separate bedroom all work together to help you make the most of your prime position next to the ocean.
Double doors in the bedroom mean that, depending on the degree of privacy you require, you can even lie in bed and take in the views. The escape from the work-a-day world continues outside, as each one bedroom bungalow has either a wooden or coral deck with chairs and a double hammock, to really help you get into the swing of things.
Furnishings inside the bungalow include a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities, comfortable sofa setting and table and chairs in the living area. If required there is room for an additional double bed or bunks to be placed there. All the finishings in these bungalows are made of local hardwoods, and most have Hideaway’s signature giant clam shell sinks in the bathrooms. None of these shells have been taken directly from the sea, but have instead been recovered from their ancient burial spots after being used in traditional Melanesian ceremonies. With the blessing of their customary owners, they are now beautiful, as well as functional, hand basins.
  • Studio Oceanside Bungalows
The four Studio Oceanside Bungalows are similar to but smaller than their one bedroom counterparts. All are located on the south-eastern side of the island to catch the prevailing breezes and have a small garden with a hammock so you can laze and overlook the waters of beautiful Mele Bay.
These Melanesian-style units are all free-standing structures with coral walls and local art works to decorate them. Each bungalow has its own unique flavour due to the materials available at the time they were built and their position on the island.
They also feature the clamshell sinks as described in the one bedroom bungalow section. Many also have bathrooms where you can enjoy a shower and the view at the same time, a testament to the privacy afforded by their lush tropical surroundings. In these bungalows the living and bedroom area are in one room. Each contains a double bed and a lounge setting, as well as bunk beds if required. Each bungalow has a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities.
  • Twin Share Rooms
Also called twin-dorms, the six twin-share beach units are ideal for the budget conscious couple or single traveler who’d like a little bit more privacy than a standard dormitory offers. Located right on the beach, the lodges are in a prime position for lazing and watching the world go by. They are located in a house-like structure with a wide wrap-around covered veranda with tables and chairs out the front and sides. Ideal for lounging on and taking in the dramatic views. The rooms are furnished with a double or twin beds, a small cupboard and a hand basin. Separate shower and toilet facilities are close by.
  • Quad Share Dormitory
At Hideaway there are six quad-share dormitory rooms. These rooms are ideal for the budget conscious traveller who mix and meet people during their stay, or for groups wanting a relaxed trip away together. All the rooms contain two sets of bunk beds and a clothes locker. Outside there are several common sets of tables and chairs outside for the use of dormitory guests. Separate shower and toilet facilities are close by.

Hideaway Island Resort Port Vila Vanuatu - Restaurant

RESTAURANT & BAR: The food served up in our recently renovated “On the Beach” bar and restaurant is just one thing that keeps our guests coming back here year after year. Where else can you sit with your toes in the sand overlooking beautiful coral reefs and crystal clear tropical waters while enjoying first rate food served up by a chef who’s worked around the world, but now calls Vanuatu home. A real local character, Bruce is as likely to share his humour with you as he is his food. Either is a real treat, and if you can get both, you’re bound to have a great night.

Furthermore, not only is the food we serve up a treat to look at and eat, it’s not likely to break the bank either. The food at Hideaway is of a quality and value we believe you'd find hard to better. We scour the markets and local suppliers every day, so that only the freshest of ingredients are ever included in the food. It also makes for great variety, with the blackboard menu changing daily depending on the produce available. Whether you’re after a simple burger, a slice of cake or pie, or wonderfully fresh seafood, chances are there’ll be something here to tempt your palate. And if you have any special dietary requirements or desires, just let us know and we'll be sure to accommodate you.

ACTIVITIES: Constant action or complete relaxation are both options for your holiday at Hideaway Island. From sitting with your toes in the sand in our 'On the Beach' restaurant and watching the sun set over the marine sanctuary, to doing a dive course, joining our daily snorkel safari or using us as a base for a host of day tours, the options are almost endless.

For guests at Hideaway there are a number of water and land based activities to keep you occupied. Other activities are available at very reasonable prices. We're happy to recommend a number of day tours available too.

  • Surrounded by the calm waters of our Marine Sanctuary, there are many options for water based activities: Snorkeling
    - Glass Bottom Boat - Kayaking.
  • Borrow a ball from our activity desk and have a game of beach volleyball, try your hand at petanque, or settle down to an afternoon or evening of board games available from the office. We also maintain a supply of paperback books for your reading pleasure. Of course, the most popular land based activity on a tropical island is relaxing. Our beach is equipped with a plentiful supply of loungers just waiting for you to settle into. Should you get too hot baking in the sun, liquid refreshment is but a few steps away in our bar on the beach. Golf.

DIVING: Hideaway Island has a reputation for being a relaxed paradise for divers and snorkelers alike. Where else in the world can you roll out of bed and be SCUBA diving in less than 15 minutes and for snorkelers even less. We have more than 15 dive sites all within 15 minutes of the shore. We run scheduled single tank dives at 8:30am, 10:30am and 2:00pm every day, regardless of the number of divers going out. Your surface interval can then be spent just relaxing on the beach.
